We have adopted a flexible, hybrid working approach

Exciting opportunities to be principal strategic HR consultants and advisers for all aspects of human resources.

The role
We are looking for one full time and one part time (21 hours per week) Strategic HR Business Partner. Each will be a principal strategic adviser on all aspects of human resources for two of four Council directorates and will ensure the alignment of HR and business strategy at that directorate level.

You will work closely with directorate management teams and be part of that meeting structure.

You will act as the HR customer relationship manager for the directorates, ensuring that managers receive excellent support across all areas of HR. In this the Strategic HRBP will be expected to work closely with their senior HR colleagues and their teams.

You will work closely with your two colleagues who are leading on employee services, resourcing and talent acquisition and organisational learning to ensure a strong understanding of business requirements. Also, you will need to ensure that strategic plans are driven robustly within directorates and across services.

Location
Whilst the service is primarily based in Laurence House, Catford , we operate a hybrid approach whereby you may be required to work both in the office and from home or another Borough location as determined by service requirements.

What we’re looking for

  • You will require a wide and in-depth knowledge of HR across the spectrum as well as strong consulting, influencing and facilitation skills.
  • You will require substantial experience of successfully managing relationships and stakeholders within a political environment and at a senior executive level.
  • You will need a successful track record as a senior practitioner within HR in a complex environment/organisation.
  •  Ideally you will have in-depth and up to date knowledge of corporate and business challenges facing local authorities and public bodies and how to deliver people management solutions that address those challenges.
  • You will require substantial knowledge of employee engagement, employment law, best practice, and employee relations – including working directly with Trade Union and staff network representatives – to deliver key outcomes that support the organisation’s priorities and objectives. This should be together with substantial experience of successfully developing and implementing – personally or through others – a broad range of people management solutions to deliver agreed organisational outcomes
  • You will be expected to work with your senior colleagues but also to be able to work with members across the whole of the HR team, maintaining positive relationships and utilising their expertise in order to meet in a timely way the strategic outcomes agreed at directorate level.
  •  This will include leading and managing your own group of advisers, together with working with Organisational Learning practitioners (including an e-learning specialist) an EDI Manager, an employee services hub, and talent and recruitment colleagues.
  • You will also need to be able to coach and mentor managers to improve people management and performance across your designated directorates.

In return, we’ll offer excellent development opportunities, plus a range of benefits that includes a career average pension scheme, flexible working and the opportunity to make a real difference to our local community.

how to apply

N.B: All appointments will be offered at the minimum spinal column point (SCP) for the grade of the role. The only exception to this will be when matching current salary (up to the maximum of the scale), which is subject to evidential proof.
